Ashwell Prince hails Liton Das for breaking through concentration barrier

Liton had spoken to Bangladesh’s new batting coach about wanting to curb his tendency to throw away his wicket when set

Mohammad Isam07-Jul-2021Liton Das may have ended up five runs short of a maiden Test century, but he overcame one mental barrier during his day-one innings in the one-off Test against Zimbabwe, according to Bangladesh’s new batting coach Ashwell Prince. Das was among three batters to cross fifty and help Bangladesh recover twice, after they had slipped to 8 for 2 and then 132 for 6.Das added 138 for the seventh wicket with Mahmudullah to move Bangladesh towards a position of respectability, but he missed out on a personal milestone when he holed out to fine leg off Donald Tiripano shortly before the second new ball was due.Prince, who is with the Bangladesh set-up only for this Zimbabwe tour, said Das had taken a step towards fixing an issue that’s dogged him through his career so far – of suffering breaks in concentration when set at the crease.”During some of our conversations during the week, he shared that sometimes he gives his wicket away in the thirties or forties, due to lack of concentration,” Prince said. “I told him, if he can bat for more than three hours, forgetting about the score which is on 30 or 40, he’d be close to a hundred. I would like to see how many hours he batted today. We were all quite disappointed for him that he didn’t get the hundred. I think this is a good learning for him.”Prince said Mahmudullah played a crucial role during the partnership, since Bangladesh needed a calm head with the experience of facing such situations in the past. Mahmudullah and Das came close to surpassing the highest-ever seventh-wicket stand against Zimbabwe, but fell four runs short of the mark achieved by Nicky Boje and Prince himself, back in 2005 at Centurion.”Mahmudullah played a really crucial innings for the team,” Prince said. “He was the perfect person for that job at the time. He and Liton Das really complemented one another really nicely. He was watchful, and Liton maneuvered the ball around. At 132 for 6, it was a big partnership for the team.”Prince also praised captain Mominul Haque for his composure, both mentally and technically as a batter. Mominul made 70 to steady Bangladesh after Blessing Muzarabani had rocked them with two early strikes. “The team had lost some early wickets,” Prince said. “It was a crucial period for us. Mominul’s calmness gives a lot of confidence to the dressing room.”His positions were very strong on the crease. He was comfortable at the crease. He is an experienced player, a very good Test player.”Bangladesh, Prince felt, weren’t out of the woods yet, but hoped the lower order could rally around the still unbeaten Mahmudullah.”Ideal scenario for Bangladesh would be for the No 10 and 11 to provide support to the one out-and-out batsman at the crease, Mahmudullah,” Prince said. “Nobody knows how good a score is, until both teams have batted on the pitch. So we can’t take for granted that anything between 290-320 is a good score. The best situation for Bangladesh would be to get as many runs we can get.”

After Zirkzee: "World-class" Euro 2024 forward also wants to join Man Utd

da prosport bet: With Joshua Zirkzee all but confirmed as a Manchester United player, it appears that Erik ten Hag’s side are eager to bring further attacking talents to Old Trafford.

Red Devils desperate for more attacking firepower

da dobrowin: The latest news out of the red side of Manchester has seen the Red Devils agree a deal for Bologna talisman Zirkzee. A recent report by Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Man Utd will not pay the Dutchman’s £35 million release clause but rather pay a slightly higher fee over the next three years.

What a signing he could be for the Red Devils.

ByHenry Jackson Jul 13, 2024

United are showing no signs of slowing down after Zirkzee with recent rumours linking the Red Devils with a move for his Netherlands teammate Xavi Simons. It is reported that the 21-year-old is set to leave his current club PSG this summer, either on a permanent deal or on loan.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe also has his sights on another central striker with the Red Devils among the numerous clubs interested in Canada striker Jonathan David. The Lille talisman has attracted interest from the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United this summer and could be available for as little as £25 million.

Lille's Jonathan David

With Man United clearly still in the market for further attacking talent, it appears that one player has made it clear that he wants a move to Old Trafford during the transfer window.

Ivan Toney keen on Man Utd transfer

As first reported on the X account of journalist Christian Falk, Ivan Toney wants to join Manchester United this summer with his agent already informing his current club Brentford of his intentions to leave.

This development follows the news from earlier in the week that United had been having internal discussions about Toney alongside Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Whilst it was previously thought that talks had not progressed beyond these initial discussions, Toney and his agent appear to have taken the initiative and are now actively pushing for a move to happen.

Having previously been linked with moves to Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur, Toney's preference for a move to Old Trafford could see the Red Devils win the race for the highly sought-after striker.

Brentford striker Ivan Toney

The attention around the 28-year-old is to be expected with Toney standing out as one of the Premier League's best performers over the last few seasons. The Englishman, at Euro 2024, has scored 36 goals across his three full seasons in the top flight with the 2022/23 season seeing the striker notch on 20 occasions.

Toney's time with Brentford saw him become a fan favourite at the Gtech Community Stadium and earn the plaudits of manager Thomas Frank. Speaking on rumours of the 28-year-old's departure back in September 2023, the Danish coach told the press:

“Ivan is a world-class player, so why should we sell a world-class player? I would rather want him to play here for the rest of his contract. That is not up to me to decide.”

Unfortunately for Frank, it appears that Toney will not remain at Brentford until his contract expires in the summer of 2025 and could be a Man United player by the time the window closes.

West Ham interested in signing Euro 2024 defender who once stopped Messi

da aposte e ganhe: West Ham United are thought to be keen on signing a new international defender who once stopped Lionel Messi.

Defenders wanted at West Ham

da poker: So far this summer, the Hammers have made two additions to Julen Lopetegui’s squad, with winger Luis Guilherme joining from Palmeiras and more recently, experienced goalkeeper Wes Foderingham arriving on a free transfer after his contract expired at Sheffield United.

After Foderingham, further signings at the back appear to be on the radar at the London Stadium, with technical director Tim Steidten promising supporters a busy summer of business. Speaking at Lopetegui’s first official press conference as West Ham manager on Monday, Steidten said:

“I can’t tell you specifics, but it will be a busy summer for us for sure. The owner and the board have done a really good job over recent years, so we’re in good shape financially. We’re trying to build up the squad. We’re not limiting ourselves to one position – we’re looking at all areas.”

Wolverhampton Wanderers centre-back Max Kilman is a player who has been heavily linked with a move to the Hammers. The Irons have already had an offer turned down from Wolves and are expected to make a new bid, with Lopetegui even willing to make him captain.

Alongside a centre-back, a left-back to provide competition for Emerson Palmieri is also wanted, with contact made for Ryan Sessegnon, who is available on a free transfer after leaving Tottenham. Jayden Oosterwolde of Fenerbahce and Lazio’s Luca Pellegrini are also of interest, but a new defensive target has now emerged for the Hammers.

West Ham interested in Jack Hendry

According to HITC, West Ham are one of three Premier League sides interested in signing Al-Ettifaq defender Jack Hendry this summer.

It is stated that West Ham, Fulham and Leicester City are all keen on the Scotland international who recently played at Euro 2024, although his impressive individual displays at the tournament have caught the eye of other Saudi Arabia clubs, particularly PIF-owned Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad.

Hendry, now 29 years of age, is an out-and-out centre-back and has been with Al-Ettifaq, managed by Steven Gerrard, for 12 months. Prior to that, the Scot has been on the books with the likes of Club Brugge, where he stopped Messi in a Champions League game against Paris Saint-Germain, and before that, Celtic.

Brendan Rodgers praised Hendry following his debut for Scotland back in 2018, saying: "He has the quality to play for Celtic and the international team for the next 10 years. His profile suits the highest level. He's quick and can defend, and it's important you can deal with the ball.

"For a player making his first appearance away from home on the international stage, I thought he was very composed and looks like he'd played a lot more games than what he has done."

A move to West Ham for Hendry could be one to watch, either alongside Kilman or instead of him.

Man Utd looking at £51m Casemiro upgrade who Mourinho rates highly

Manchester United are entering a crucial transfer window this summer, having finished eighth in the Premier League last season, before saving their European hopes by winning the FA Cup to gain qualification to the Europa League.

However, with the decision to stick with Erik ten Hag, the new owners will now look to bolster his squad in order to see a significant improvement this season.

One area of interest for United is the midfield, finding a suitable partner for the extremely talented teenager Kobbie Mainoo, with Casemiro missing for large parts of last season due to injury, and questions being asked about his ability to cover the necessary ground.

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro

Manchester United transfer news

According to reports from CaughtOffside, Manchester United are looking to replace the likes of Casemiro and Eriksen in midfield this summer, and are said to appreciate Bayern Munich's Joshua Kimmich.

The 29-year-old only has one year left on his deal, and according to these reports, he doesn't seem any closer to signing a new deal with the German giants. Previous reports have suggested he could cost around £51m.

Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich

Kimmich could be the perfect replacement for Casemiro, bringing that elite level needed in the Premier League to orchestrate in midfield, whilst still having the top-end experience to help nurture the young and talented Mainoo.

How Kimmich compares to Casemiro

Casemiro's defensive action numbers still read impressively, with 3.23 blocks, 3.14 clearances, 3.73 tackles and 1.76 aerials won per 90. To compare that with Kimmich, he makes 1.13 blocks, 1.22 clearances, 1.88 tackles, and wins 0.28 aerial per 90.

These stats are slightly deceiving though on Kimmich's part, as he often plays at right back for club and country, rather than in that defensive number six role everyone knows he is capable of.

Defensive action output isn't where Casemiro's frailties lie, but instead, it is his lack of mobility as he gets older. The 32-year-old suffered an injury keeping him out for 17 games last season, and since returning, questions have been asked about his ability to cover the ground necessary in a Ten-Hag side.

Manchester United player Casemiro

However, Kimmich continues to show his ability to cover ground, getting up and down on the right-hand side for Bayern, and pressing intensely at international level for Julian Nagelsmann's Germany side.

But this isn't the only factor for the interest in Kimmich, as he exceeds Casemiro's metrics quite drastically on the ball too, attempting 88.95 passes per 90 minutes, and making 8.73 progressive passes per 90. Compared to Casemiro who only attempts 63.69 passes per 90, and makes 5.15 progressive passes per 90, it's night and day.

Kimmich's ability to orchestrate in midfield, break the lines with his passing and take the ball under pressure would improve the overall structure for Manchester United, whilst also giving Kobbie Mainoo more license further up the pitch.

Bayern Munich central midfielder Joshua Kimmich.

Former United boss Jose Mourinho has even labelled Kimmich "absolutely phenomenal" in the past, praising his high level of football intelligence.

This would make the German an ideal addition to Ten-Hag's United side, adding an extremely experienced player to replace other veterans, but also improving the overall quality of the side, and balance for others to excel.

Grêmio faz 'jogo duro' e diz que tentará acordo com Douglas Costa

WV Raman: India 'lacked game time', were 'short' on 'mental stamina and cricketing fitness'

India Women’s head coach WV Raman has pointed out that the team “lacked game time” and were “short” in terms of “mental stamina and cricketing fitness” that led to their 4-1 ODI series loss to South Africa Women in Lucknow. Already down 3-1 in the series, India were unable to defend a low score of 188 in the final game on Wednesday which the visitors crossed with five wickets and 10 balls remaining.India’s women team was playing an ODI series after nearly 15 months, and international cricket after a year since losing the T20 World Cup final at the MCG in March 2020, whereas South Africa were coming on the back of a 2-1 T20I series win and a 3-0 blanking of Pakistan Women at home in January-February this year. It showed in India’s performance in almost all aspects – batting first, they were bowled out for under 200 twice out of four times, on the other two occasions their bowling couldn’t defend totals of 248 and 266, and they also dropped more catches and missed at least two stumpings.”In terms of what transpired in this series, it’s very simple: the girls lacked the game time and they are obviously short in terms of the mental stamina and cricketing fitness,” Raman said at the post-match press conference. “By that, I mean it’s not easy to come back after 15 months and play a one-day series and retain the focus and the intensity that is required to put the opposition under pressure.”Yes, these things do happen; it happens to the best of players and the best of teams, and I am sure the girls would have realised what was not really happening, and they will work on it. I have seen them do it in the past and I have no doubts they will do it in the future as well.”Raman said the bowlers would find their rhythm as they got more game time.”…The bowlers didn’t get into the groove, as they play more and get more game time. The fact that Rajeshwari (Gayakwad, 10-4-3-13) has managed to do that coming into this game is a positive. That’s what I meant earlier when I said the bowlers need to get into their groove as far as bowling is concerned. That’ll only happen as they play more and more.”Yes, this is definitely something the girls will work on, quite a lot of activities going forward which will also help them to achieve that. I’m sure it won’t be too long before all of them get into their rhythm and perform as well as they can. The other fact is that we also wanted to play on flat tracks because that is something that might come up when we go abroad. So it’s all a part of having to adapt and adjust to conditions that they may get when they go abroad.”WV Raman: “What probably didn’t go in our favour was that the bowlers could not be consistent”•BCCI

India’s spinners flattered to deceive this series until Gayakwad’s stifling figures on Wednesday. Legspinner Poonam Yadav went wicketless in her 35 overs from four games, offspinner Deepti Sharma got just one scalp from her 28 overs, and left-arm spinner Radha Yadav leaked 68 runs in her 9.4 overs in the fourth ODI, the only game she played. Overall, India could take more than five South Africa wickets only once, in the second ODI when the visitors were bowled out for 157.India’s batting was also no match for South Africa’s. The runs mainly came from Punam Raut (one century and two half-centuries) and Mithali Raj (two fifties) who ended the series with strike rates of 71.66 and 67.74 respectively. The visitors, meanwhile, saw consistency from Lizelle Lee (a century and two half-centuries), Mignon du Preez (two fifties) and Laura Wolvaardt (two fifties) of which Lee and du Preez struck at 86.22 and 75.11 respectively in the series.Raman said it wasn’t easy to just look at the opposition and “imitate” them even if they were doing much better in the same conditions.”…The batting unit is getting into its groove, it’s gotten into its groove – despite the fact that not all of them got big scores, we managed scores in excess of 250 or around 250,” he said. “What probably didn’t go in our favour was that the bowlers could not be consistent. But there is no blaming them at all, because it was expected.”The other part is that you cannot really think of something that is done well by the other sides and try to imitate them. We need to try and get into the groove and then see how the entire unit is in terms of form, and then see what we need to do. And then we have to assess and see at what times we need to try and step on the pedal.”It (setting targets) depends on the conditions, it depends on the kind of attacks that we bat against. It’s very difficult to set a target mentally… see, it’s very easy to lose a game in the first 15 overs. You may not win it. But in trying to be greedy and posting a huge score, you might suddenly lose a few early wickets and start looking down the barrel too early in the game. So you’ve got to take this particular thing as it unfolds out on the field, and maybe take stock of the situation after two-thirds of the 50-overs quota of the innings is finished, and then see what needs to be done.”The two teams will now play three T20Is on March 20, 21 and 23 at the same ground in Lucknow.

Raphinha repeat: 49ers keen on signing "generational" £79m star for Leeds

Leeds United are currently one point above the relegation zone in the Premier League after picking up 11 points from their first 11 matches of the 2025/26 campaign.

Whilst it has not been a disastrous start for the Championship champions, there are already some eyes wandering to the January transfer window with a view to the club bolstering the squad with new recruits.

Adding more goals to the team may be one of the priorities for the 49ers ahead of the window, as Daniel Farke’s side have only scored 11 goals in their 11 league matches.

Noah Okafor, Joe Rodon, and Lukas Nmecha are all currently tied on two goals in the Premier League this season, making them the club’s joint-top scorers.

As you can see in the table above, Leeds look to be on course for their first top-flight campaign without a player in double figures for goals for the first time since they were promoted under Marcelo Bielsa in 2020.

What the Whites would give to have Raphinha back at Elland Road for a second spell, as the Brazil international was a sensational signing by Victor Orta and Bielsa.

Where Raphinha ranks among Leeds signings since 2020

The left-footed forward was signed from Rennes for a fee of £18m in the summer of 2020 after Leeds had won the Championship title in the 2019/20 campaign.

It is hard to argue against Raphinha being the best signing that the club have made since their promotion in 2020, as he was a superstar for the Whites and earned them a significant profit upon his eventual departure.

The Brazilian phenomenon ranked first in the squad for ‘big chances’ created in both the 2020/21 and 2021/22 campaign, with 12 in the first and ten in the second, per Sofascore, which speaks to how important he was as a creative force.

Raphinha, as shown in the statistics above, also provided a big threat as a scorer of goals, with a return of 17 strikes in 65 Premier League games for the Whites in total.

Leeds were relegated the season after he left the club and no players in the squad hit double figures for ‘big chances’ created, per Sofascore, which speaks to the impact that his exit had on the team.

His £55m move to Barcelona in 2022 was also a club-record sale for Leeds, which remains the case today, and this is another reason why he must be considered their best signing since 2020, due to his undeniable impact on the pitch and the money that his sale generated.

He was an exciting signing at the time of his arrival in 2020, as a technically brilliant Brazilian forward coming in from Ligue 1, and the club could recapture that level of excitement with one of their targets for the next window.

Leeds lining up move for Premier League star

According to MOTLeedsNews, Leeds United are lining up a potential swoop to sign Manchester United central midfielder Kobbie Mainoo in the upcoming January transfer window.

The report claims that the Whites were interested in a move for the England international in the summer window, but the Red Devils were unwilling to sanction an exit at the time.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

It states that ‘all signs’ point to a January exit from Old Trafford for Mainoo, due to his lack of game time this season, and that Leeds are keeping tabs on his situation with a view to a move for his signature.

However, MOTLeedsNews reveals that the main priority for the Whites is to sign a new number nine to bolster their attack, with any deal for the United midfielder on the back burner until they get that done.

If Leeds do land a new striker and go on to sign Mainoo on loan for the second half of the 2025/26 campaign, the central midfielder could be the most exciting signing since Raphinha.

Why Leeds should sign Kobbie Mainoo

In September, it was reported that a £79m price tag had been placed on the English starlet amid interest from Real Madrid, as United looked to scare teams off an attempt to sign him on a permanent basis.

£79m is £43.5m more than Leeds have ever spent on a player and £24m more than the club have ever sold a player for, which shows that Mainoo may be the most valuable player in the club’s history, even if he only joins on loan.

It would be an incredibly exciting signing for supporters and surely viewed as an ambitious move by neutrals, because the midfield star has made 80 appearances for Manchester United and been capped ten times by England, per Transfermarkt, despite not turning 21 until next April.

Mainoo, as explained by Ruben Amorim in the comments above, is in an unfortunate situation at Old Trafford because he has found himself behind club captain and Portuguese star Bruno Fernandes in his position because of the manager’s 3-4-2-1 system.

Before Amorim’s time at United, the English midfielder excelled in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 system under Erik ten Hag in the 2023/24 campaign, which bodes well for a potential move to Leeds, as they are Farke’s two preferred formations at Elland Road.

As you can see in the table above, Mainoo earned his place in the England team and as a regular starter for United thanks to his impressive play in possession under the Dutch coach.

The 20-year-old midfield star, who was dubbed “generational” by teammate Rasmus Hojlund, was among the best midfielders in the Premier League at creating chances and carrying his side up the pitch with his ball control and mobility, which could helpd Leeds to improve their dismal goal tally of 11 goals from 11 games.

Mainoo, as shown in the clips above, also provided quality defensively, tracking back to make vital challenges, and showed potential as a goalscorer with five goals in all competitions, per Sofascore.

Therefore, the England international should not be judged by his failure to get into the current United team, as that is almost purely down to the manager’s preferred tactics.

Bamford 2.0: Leeds chase ST with 15 goals in 25/26, he'd save Farke's job

Leeds United are interested in signing a striker who could save Daniel Farke’s job at Elland Road.

ByDan Emery Nov 15, 2025

Overall, Leeds fans should be incredibly excited by the prospect of signing the young star, as he could be just as exciting a signing as Raphinha was, for different reasons, despite the fact that it would only be a loan deal.

CSA's interim board expresses concern over SA team's response to BLM movement

Cricket South Africa’s interim board has expressed concern over the men’s national team’s response to the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement but maintains it will not compel the squad to act in a particular way. Instead, board chairman Judge Zak Yacoob has written to director of cricket Graeme Smith and national coach Mark Boucher noting individuals’ right to freedom of expression but stating he felt that South Africans should show “the world that all of us are together in opposing racism at every turn”.Yacoob has also made himself available for any player who felt strongly about demonstrating the message of anti-racism to contact him directly and stressed the interim board’s stance in favour of BLM.”The interim board (IB) reaffirmed the significance of the current world-wide movement against systemic racism in sport, noting that it was not a sectarian political cause but a broad social justice campaign garnering wide support from athletes all over the world, bringing together a coalition of support across national, racial, class, religious and generational lines,” an interim board statement read. “The IB feels black lives matter has a particular meaning given South Africa’s apartheid past. Therefore, the IB has confirmed CSA’s support for BLM – first expressed on 9 July in the aftermath of the letter sent to CSA by 36 former national players and senior coaches.”Related

While CSA as an organisation and individual players such as Kagiso Rabada have repeatedly thrown their weight behind the BLM movement, the national team, as a collective, has not been as strong in its stance. The team did not take a knee on its return to international cricket, against England, on November 27 – the first time they played together since March – but wore black armbands to mourn the lives lost in the coronavirus pandemic. Two days before the game the team issued a statement expressing their commitment to dismantling anti-racism by “building commitments to one another and demonstrating ways of engaging that we simply never have before as a team”.In that statement, the team harked back to the exhibition 3TeamCricket (3TC) game in July, where all 24 players and every member of support staff involved took a knee. Coach Mark Boucher said that in that act the team felt “we have done what we needed to do”. The team then U-turned slightly on that and a banner reading: “We stand in solidarity against racism and gender-based violence” was on display in the stands at Newlands when they played England in two of the three T20Is. The third match was in Paarl and the banner was not transported to Boland Park.Between July and November, CSA also set-up a Social Justice and Nation-Building (SJN) Committee, chaired by former independent board director Eugenia Kula-Ameyaw. The committee had a vast range of responsibilities, which included considering reparations for those players who had been discriminated against in the past. An ombudsman, advocate Dumisa Ntsebeza, was unveiled in August and tasked with managing an independent complaints system. That process, along with the entire SJN, has been placed on hold while the interim board obtains a legal opinion on how to move forward.
